Saat kita pergi ke sebuah restoran ataupun pedagang kaki lima hanya untuk membeli sebuah minuman, maka biasanya kita memesan minuman yang mengandung es. Namun pernahkah terpikir dibenak kita, apakah aman es batu yang kita konsumsi tersebut. Terbuat dari air apakah es batu tersebut, air matang atau air mentah?

Es batu yang terbuat dari air mentah mengandung banyak bakteri e-coli. Bakteri ini banyak dijumpai pada air minum yang bisa berdampak buruk pada kesehatan. Apalagi bila pada es batu yang terbuat dari air mentah dimana bakteri ini belum tersterilisasi oleh proses pemanasan saat merebus. Bahayanya bakteri ini bagi tubuh adalah selain dapat menyebabkan masalah pencernaan yang serius, merusak ginjal dan melemahkan dinding usus pada anak kecil.

Es batu dari air mentah
Es batu yang terbuat dari air mentah terlihat berwarna putih layaknya susu. Hal tersebut dikarenakan masih banyak gas atau oksigen yang berada didalamnya. Kebanyakan es batu yang terbuat dari air mentah ini adalah berupa es balokkan atau es dalam bungkusan plastik. Es balok ini sudah pasti sangat berbahaya untuk dikonsumsi dan tidak baik untuk kesehatan. Apalagi bila air untuk membuat es batu ini diambil dari air sungai yang tercemar.

Es batu dari air matang
Sementara itu es yang terbuat dari air matang akan terlihat bening. Hal tersebut dikarenakan gas di dalam air terlepaskan ketika proses perebusan terjadi. Selain itu ketika pendinginan terjadi sedikit gas yang terperangkap dalam es karena kandungan udara dalam air berkurang.  Es semacam ini biasanya disebut sebagai es kristal atau ice cube.

Es kristal ini memiliki bentuk seperti pipa dan berlubang, selain itu sekarang ini sudah banyak dijumpai di berbagai restoran. Es batu jenis ini aman dikonsumsi dan tidak beresiko memiliki kandungan bakteri didalamnya karena air yang dipakainya adalah air matang.
